TCC Carpets brings a touch of understated sophistication to Marina Bay Sands’ most exclusive spaces.
When Marco Chan confirmed a partnership with Marina Bay Sands to supply carpets to its most rarefied suites, the challenges were immense. For starters, the time and budget he had to work with were limited given the famed integrated resort had just parted ways with another vendor due to differences in quality expectations.
But this didn’t faze Chan, who founded his company, TCC Carpets, in 2001. Starting as an OEM carpet manufacturer for several high-end brands, Chan saw a gap in the market and eventually started making his own high-quality, bespoke hand-tufted and woven carpets for contract clients.
TCC Carpets’ current portfolio features over 50 of the world’s most renowned brands, including hotels and global corporations. It also supplies to cruise ships, private jets and yachts.
The company’s collaboration with Marina Bay Sands is part of the resort’s wide-ranging refurbishment project which will significantly increase the number of suites to cater to the growing number of ultra-affluent travellers.
TCC Carpets’ bespoke plush carpets and rugs are found in the hotel’s Paiza Sky Residence on the 55th level of Tower 2, as well as the guestrooms, corridors and lift lobbies of the Paiza Collection. The latter is a new ultra-luxurious suite category, the jewel of which is the opulent Chairman Suite outfitted with a private gym, spa facilities and a grand piano, alongside other lavish trimmings to cater to the hotel’s most elite guests.
Designed by the renowned Steve Leung Design Group, suites in the Paiza Collection were envisioned as luxurious residences. This means every carpet had to be of the highest quality and on par with each space’s multiple handcrafted elements, which include custom-made Savoir mattresses, hand-painted wall coverings from Fromental and hand-hammered metalware from Italian brand Pinetti.
Despite the tight budget and timeline, Chan and his team managed to pull off the job — an impressive feat considering that the project involved manufacturing more than 40,000 square metres of carpet in just five months. “It’s a huge project,” says Chan, who was impressed by Marina Bay Sands’ commitment to adhering to the highest possible standards.
“Our company provides very bespoke products and unique services to a focused clientele; we don't try to do everything,” says Chan. In addition, TCC Carpets’ investment in research and development over the years has enabled it to keep abreast of the latest technology, designs and materials. Only the finest natural silk, cotton, bamboo and New Zealand wool is woven into exquisite carpets using advanced hand-tufted weaving techniques, which ensure the material structure is strong enough to stand up to extensive use over many years. Each is an environment unto itself, melding subtle hues like sage green and pale blues into a serene whole, or using artistic raised textures to create pleasing sensations as you walk on them.
TCC Carpets also has a comprehensive in-house team handling all aspects of a project – from design and development to sales and manufacturing. Its nimble yet skilled team of 550 are spread across managing and service support offices in Hong Kong and Macau, and factories in Nanhai and Dongguan.
Little wonder then, that TCC Carpets is the go-to for the world’s most renowned brands. Clients know that Chan and his team can fulfil any demand. He likens his company to James Bond – the spy hero who can solve any problem at any time, across the globe. “We answer calls from anywhere in the world. And we will make it happen,” says Chan.
