Rotary International Convention: Largest post-pandemic association event in Singapore

Over 14,600 delegates attended Rotary as the event returned to Singapore for the second time since 1999

Sands Expo & Convention Centre was abuzz with activity from 25 to 29 May, with the Rotary International Convention in town. The association meeting – the largest in Singapore since the pandemic – saw over 14,600 delegates from 151 countries gathering, in a full buy-out of the venue.

Highlights included the House of Friendship exhibition and GastroBeats, an immersive festival beside Marina Bay Sands, which opened exclusively for delegates on 25 May.

This was the second time the event was held in Singapore, following its inaugural session in 1999. Sharing about their choice of destination, Jennifer Scott, 2024 Rotary International Convention Committee Chair, said: “The 2024 Rotary International Convention was held in Singapore, a country that never ceases to surprise! It is an incredible fusion of cultures, food, architecture, and passions—truly one of the most diverse countries in the world. With Rotarians coming from more than 150 countries, we saw Singapore as the perfect hub.”

Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self reflects a commitment to taking action and dedicating efforts to building a better world, including caring for the environment. Scott explained how Singapore and Sands Expo aligned with their motto: “Known as the Garden City, Singapore is one of the greenest cities in the world. Our convention venue, Sands Expo, also aligned perfectly with our environmental focus. They helped us reduce food wastage and eliminate as much plastic as possible by providing glass water bottles for speakers and water refilling stations on every level.”
