Luxury British bed brand Savoir debuts its largest collection of beds under one roof at Marina Bay Sands’ Paiza Royal Collection, promising guests the most transformative zzzs of their life.
There is sleep, then there is the Savoir experience. Sleeping in a Savoir bed offers a slumber so deep it transcends mere shuteye — a sentiment shared by famous connoisseurs of luxury including Marilyn Monroe, Madonna and Oprah Winfrey.
In Singapore, Marina Bay Sands’ newly created Paiza Royal Collection now houses the world’s largest collection of bespoke Savoir beds.
121 bespoke beds have been installed in the ultra-luxurious suites, including the No. 2, the original bestselling Savoir mattress and the No. 3, the brand’s superior category of mattresses.
“Marina Bay Sands sought something truly exceptional for their Paiza Royal Collection — a unique expression of luxury that would elevate the guest experience to unparalleled heights. Savoir, with its reputation as the world’s most luxurious bedmaker, was the perfect fit,” says Richard Tran, owner of Luxury Bed, the exclusive distributor of Savoir Beds in Singapore.
The Savoir legacy began in 1905 when Richard D’Oyly Carte, the owner of London’s Savoy Hotel, sought to offer his guests the perfect night’s sleep and commissioned an upholsterer to craft the first-ever Savoy bed, tailored to his specifications.
Since then, Savoir beds have been synonymous with luxury, made entirely by hand using time-honoured techniques and premium natural materials, such as horsetail hair, cotton and wool. Its extravagant creations include the circular Three Sixty bed, which rotates 360 degrees, and bespoke mattresses designed with hidden jewellery safes.
In the residential-style Paiza Royal Collection suites, the bespoke Savoir beds adhere to classic rectangular designs, but some suites, like the Harbour Suite, offer an extra-wide 240cm super king mattress.
The spacious 160sqm suite boasts a bedroom with an extra-large Savoir bed dressed in 600-thread-count bedlinen, Ploh pillows, and a white goose-down duvet — an irresistible invitation to unwind. Thoughtful touches, such as a night fridge stocked with premium teas and mineral water and a bedside tablet to control room temperature and curtains allow guests to perfect their sleeping environment.
An indulgent bathroom suite, featuring a two-person jacuzzi bathtub, oversized Dornbracht double shower heads, full-body spray jets, and Acqua di Parma bath amenities, complements the relaxation experience.
Afterwards, slip into the bed’s silky-smooth sheets and savour the pleasure of settling into the mattress, which is firm yet comfortably cocooning. The expertly hand-teased layers of horsetail hair, cotton and wool also offer an ideal balance of cradling and support while absorbing movements so even the lightest sleeper can rest easy.
On a bed as meticulously crafted as this, the greatest challenge may be leaving it. Whether enjoying a power nap or a full night’s rest, awaken rejuvenated and free from the aches and discomfort of sleeping in awkward positions. This is the coveted gift of a Savoir bed.
Savoir’s legacy continues to this day. “The business started from a hotelier’s vision to create the most amazing night’s sleep and that is the thread that has carried through the 120 years of the business. We believe traditional techniques create the best beds and we do not substitute that,” says Sarah Frederickson, marketing director of Savoir Beds.
Each bed is made to the highest standards of craftsmanship. Skilled artisans use techniques like side-stitching, where a double-ended needle links the mattress sides to the pocket springs, and hand-slipping, where a semi-circular needle invisibly closes the mattress. The tufting technique ensures that loose hair and other filling materials remain in place, preventing uncomfortable dips.
Horsetail hair, the "king" of upholstery fillings, is key. Sourced sustainably from South America, the hair is steam-cleaned, twisted tightly and passed through a 1920s carding machine to create springy fibres, which act like millions of micro-springs.

Alongside cotton and wool, horsetail hair's
natural breathability wicks away moisture and
regulates temperature for optimal comfort.
Mattresses are handstitched closed using a special needle, which allows for much more cushioning loose horsetail to be inserted than machine sewing.
Craftsmen specially trained in the art of hand-teasing and layering horsetail hair ensure every bed delivers the signature bounce and support for that "Savoir feel." Every bed is bench made to order, meaning it’s crafted by a single master artisan who signs off on the completed product.
No wonder Marina Bay Sands selected Savoir as the bedmaker for its Paiza Royal Collection suites to bring luxury sleep to one of the world’s most iconic hotels.
As Tran sums up, “This commitment to craftsmanship aligns seamlessly with Marina Bay Sands’ vision for the suites, creating an environment where every element, from design to comfort, is nothing short of extraordinary.”
