We have created a Responsible Gambling Programme that not only assists our patrons seeking help, but also educates our Team Members on how to direct patrons to access support.

Marina Bay Sands is committed to establishing an environment of Responsible Gambling for its patrons, raising awareness on the potential effects associated with problematic gambling behaviours and providing information for patrons seeking help.

Marina Bay Sands supports the social safeguards established by the Singapore Government, including the entry levy system for Singapore citizens and permanent residents, the Visit Limit Programme and Casino exclusion orders.

MARINA BAY SANDS RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING PROGRAMME

Marina Bay Sands has established a Responsible Gambling Programme with the objective of promoting an environment of Responsible Gambling in the Casino and raising awareness among our patrons.

The Programme is overseen by the Office of the Responsible Gambling Director who is assisted in the administration of the Programme by Responsible Gambling Ambassadors, Casino employees who have been trained in identifying observable signs of problematic gambling behaviour.

CONDUCT IN THE CASINO

Marina Bay Sands patrons play a large part in promoting an environment of Responsible Gambling in the Casino and we encourage patrons to play responsibly. In addition, Marina Bay Sands will not accept wagers from intoxicated patrons, who may be asked to leave the Casino.

As part of the Responsible Gambling Programme and our continuing efforts to ensure that all patrons gamble responsibly, Marina Bay Sands may exclude patrons from the Casino who: 

  • Display problematic gambling behaviours
  • Leave their children unattended while gambling
  • Are detected sleeping in the Casino
  • Do not have a valid entry levy (if a Singapore citizen or permanent resident)
  • Display undesirable or unacceptable behaviours

Marina Bay Sands specially trained Responsible Gambling Ambassadors will refer patrons displaying signs of problematic gambling behaviour to the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) so that they may receive the appropriate assistance.

  • Set a time limit for gambling
  • Do not gamble when upset or stressed
  • Use money set aside for gambling
  • Stick to time and spend limits
  • Take frequent breaks
  • Do not chase losses
  • Limit alcohol consumption
  • Do not borrow money to gamble
  • Do not use gambling as a way to make money
  • The machine hasn’t paid out for a while – it’s due for a win.
  • If I play a bit longer, I’ll win back my losses.
  • I have a sure-win strategy.
  • The game is all about skill.
  • I am an experienced gambler. I know what I am doing.
  • If I follow my rituals, I am more likely to win.
  • Playing with your loyalty club card decreases your chances of winning.
  • Slot machines pay out when they are hot.
  • Playing more than one machine at a time increases your chances of winning.
  • Casino personnel can help you find a slot machine that will pay.

The examples above are all common misconceptions that gamblers may have about gambling. Gambling myths and superstitions are fiction, not facts an if you believe in any of these, you may find yourself spending more than you planned on gambling.

SIGNS OF PROBLEM GAMBLING

Most experts agree that there is currently no reliable way to identify problem gambling just by looking at them; however, it is important for each patron to know some warning signs. There warning signs may include, but are not limited to:

  • Preoccupation with gambling
  • Gambling with increasing amounts of money in order to achieve the same level of excitement
  • Becoming restless or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop gambling
  • Repeated unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back or stop gambling
  • Gambling as a way to escape from problems, or to relieve guilt, anxiety or depression
  • Returning to chase losses after losing money gambling
  • Lying to conceal the extent of gambling
  • Jeopardising or losing a significant relationship, job or educational or career opportunity because of gambling
  • Relying on others to provide money when in a desperate financial situation due to gambling
