DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore is a specialised university for the digital economy, with a focus on computer science, embedded systems engineering, UX/UI design, and digital art and animation. They are one of Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT)’s Overseas University Partners and have been offering undergraduate degree programs in Singapore for over 10 years.

Games as a Medium for Artistic Expression
Hear from Kevin Prior, Senior Lecturer in Game Software Design and Production, as he shares about how art and science can create immersive and emotional forms of storytelling. His talk will cover the history of games as expressive media, the main components that make games a unique and interesting medium, and some challenges and opportunities those who wish to pursue this medium may face.
This talk is intended for anyone interested in learning more about creative self-expression within the game space or for curious creatives who want to know more about this emerging field.

Games as a Medium for Expressing Cultural Values
Cultural values and socio-political implications of games are important topics of discussions for the fields of humanities and social sciences. As educators at DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore, Ms Shanthina and Dr. Sim Jiaying encourage students to make games that consider social issues and increase cultural awareness.
This exclusive two-way conversational piece will feature Shanthina Ravindran, Department Chair and Senior Lecturer, together with her coordinator Dr. Sim Jiaying, Assistant Professor, both faculty members from the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Kevin Prior graduated from DigiPen's Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in Real-Time Interactive Simulation in 2005. He has been spending his time working in the game industry – primarily focusing on the casual, social and mobile game sector. He enjoys working at smaller studios where he has held a variety of positions in game design, production, and programming. With a diverse range of personal and professional experience, Kevin seeks a balanced approach between artistic value and practical implementation.

Shanthina Ravindran received her Bachelor of Laws at the University of London followed by a Master of Education-English Language degree at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She currently teaches composition, graphic novels, research reasoning, argument, and intellectual property law. Shanthina also lists reading and writing as her chief pleasures outside of the workplace.

Dr. Sim Jiaying is an Assistant Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences where she teaches interdisciplinary modules such as interactive storytelling, mythology, Southeast Asian film and fiction, and gender studies in relation to game design and narratives. She received her BA and MA degrees in English literature from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She went on to earn her Ph.D. in Film and Television Studies from the University of Glasgow, UK. She is currently working on a monograph on the ethics of care in global screen cultures.
