Free Screenings – Quantum Shorts: Encore

In June 2024, UN General Assembly officially declared 2025 to be the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. In conjunction with the official opening of the year by the UN, ArtScience Cinema is proud to partner with the Centre for Quantum Technologies to present Quantum Shorts: Encore.

Quantum Shorts: Encore presents an encore of the winning films from all the years of the film festival of the same name. The collection of short films, inspired by quantum physics, mixes the narrative and abstract.

FAQ

Quantum Shorts was a competition organised by the Centre for Quantum Technologies at the National University of Singapore, Singapore’s flagship national research centre in quantum technologies, together with international partners. Learn more.

The international contest alternated between annual calls for films and fiction from 2012 to 2024. The film festival welcomed entries by both amateur and professional filmmakers to tell the world stories through a quantum lens.

Quantum Shorts: Encore presents the winning films, but for those who enjoy stories told in prose, two Quantum Shorts anthologies are available for download as free ebooks

About IYQST

International Year of Quantum Science and Technology
Recognising the importance of quantum science and the need for wider awareness of its past and future impact, dozens of national scientific societies gathered together to support marking 100 years of quantum mechanics with a U.N.-declared international year.

On Jun 7 2024, the United Nations proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). According to the proclamation, this year-long, worldwide initiative will “be observed through activities at all levels aimed at increasing public awareness of the importance of quantum science and applications.”

Anyone, anywhere can participate in IYQ by helping others to learn more about quantum on this centennial occasion, participating in or organising an IYQ event, or simply taking the time to learn more about quantum science and technology.
