Digital Discoveries: Procreate Portraits Masterclass with Stephanie Hew
Mexican artist Frida Kahlo often painted herself with different striking expressions, plants, animals in bold, vibrant colors as a way to show how she was feeling. Using digital art, freely explore how changing the shape, size and colour of a drawing can immediately change the mood of an artwork.

- Learn how to use digital art app Procreate’s and apply its tools to illustrate
- Understand how simple shapes can create varying facial features, expressions and symbols
- Create a personalised digital portrait of themselves
This activity involves the use of an iPad and Apple Pencil with version 5.3.7 of the app Procreate. All equipment is provided but participants may bring their personal iPad with version 5.3.7 of Procreate, and/or Apple Pencil to use if desired.
This masterclass is offered as part of Frida Forever, ArtScience Museum’s season of celebrating the life and legacy of Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Stephanie Hew is a passionate illustrator known for her whimsical art which reflects her playful personality and love for animals. She uses a variety of mediums, but her current favourite tool is her iPad and the app Procreate. Stephanie has been creating digital art for over two decades and happily shares her knowledge with her students, while also running her own business called Inky Cat Studio.
