A wondrous world hidden within a cup – the traditional Japanese tea ceremony comes alive in Sen, an immersive VR experience nominated for competition at the 80th Venice International Film Festival’s Extended Reality division. The journey begins with a tea-bowl in hand, where a tiny being is slowly awakening within the world of tea.
Meet Sen, the spirit of tea, and join it as it explores its relationship with the world. Journey with the little tea sprite as it curiously interacts with its environment and other similar beings. Discover what happens when Sen grows comfortable in its environment and begins to think and act more selfishly.
“Sen (one thousand) represents a very large number – infinity. I have come to believe that we, the life forms on earth, are as pale as particles dissolving in an infinite universe and exist for the time of a heartbeat. In this story, the user meets Sen, an incarnation of tea, born into the world from a Chawan held in both hands. For the first time in its life, it encounters and interacts with nature and others. Sen experiences the joys of life and a great deal of suffering. His “life” is no different from ours. He is us.” - Keisuke Itoh, Creator and Director of Sen
