SPECIAL EVENT
In the Ether — A Festival of Technology and Innovation
The festival explores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and other emerging technologies, bridging collective consciousness and individual creativity.
Showcasing works from an assembly of new media artists, In the Ether challenges conventional notions of art by leveraging digital technologies and hopes to ignite discussion on the role of data — an ever-evolving facet of human expression — in a world where creativity is the fuel of innovation and progress.
Expanding on last year’s exhibition, Notes From the Ether, In the Ether brings together artists and collaborators who use various mediums and evolving technologies in their work. Alongside the artwork installations sited throughout the museum are an EdTech symposium, workshops on creating with generative AI, 3D scanning and painting, late-night programmes and the Singapore premieres of films that address the role of generative AI in storytelling.
This festival is proudly presented by ArtScience Museum in partnership with Ethereum Singapore, a community-driven initiative dedicated to advancing the Ethereum ecosystem and fostering innovation in technology.

Auntiedote: Aioli Times reveals the coming-of-age story behind the enigmatic falling garlic on the runway in the Auntieverse.
Forever etched in the spectators' minds as the comedic character of the Auntieverse, this garlic became famous due to a tripping mishap on the fashion catwalk while attempting to show off its jumping skills.
Despite its unconventional dream of becoming a fashion model, which is quite atypical for garlic, the aunties rallied around the creature, supporting it in achieving its aspirations.
Auntiedote: Aioli Times highlights the vulnerability involved in presenting one's work to the public and facing criticism, while spectators may not be aware of the challenges and efforts that go on behind the scenes.
This AI film was presented in Niceaunties’ first physical solo exhibition at Expanded.Art Gallery, Berlin in April 2024. ArtScience Museum welcomes Niceaunties for their first exhibition in their home country. The inflated sculpture of the garlic falls over the Level 4 stairwell with great enjoyment and joy.

BIOS: Living NFTs – Bonsai Specimens
Installations

Location: Basement 2, Circulation
Artists: Jake Tan and Ernest Wu
BIOS: Living NFTs – Bonsai Specimens presents a digital bonsai that grows over time, influenced by each block generated on the Ethereum blockchain. This interactive artwork allows viewers to witness the gradual evolution of a bonsai, growing with each new block that the Ethereum blockchain processes and verifies, triggering subtle changes in the bonsai’s branches.
Visitors can engage with the piece through a digital interface and observe real-time blockchain updates and their direct impact on the plant's development. This organic growth pattern driven by data and decentralised technology visualises the growth of the blockchain through a self-updating digital object.
This work is part of the BIOS: Living NFT series by Jake Tan and Ernest Wu and is supported by SERIAL CO_ – Mary Ann Ng, Elina Avdieieva, Freny Antony, Sunny Vo, Jeane Chan Jin Lii, Siti Syahinda and Li Zeyi.
