Art and cinema share a complex and intimate relationship, connected by a love of creativity, an urgent need for self-expression and an interest in how new technologies can inform storytelling.

The ART SG FILM 2025 explores this symbiosis through the theme of ‘Films by Artists, Films on Artists’, a curated programme of boundary-pushing films where artists feature prominently both as directors behind the camera and as subjects on the big screen.

Films by Artists
In this segment, we showcase historical and contemporary artists as filmmakers. Drawing on their practices in sculpture, painting or digital forms, these artists often use the moving image as a medium for experimentation, visual poetry or conceptual narratives that challenge cinematic conventions.

Films on Artists
This segment features films that examine the artist as a subject. In intimate portraits and grand historical surveys, the films unravel the complexities of the creative process and reveal the human stories behind iconic works of art. In doing so, they aid our understanding of art’s evolving role in society and culture.

Curated by Bangkok Kunsthalle and Khao Yai Founding Director, and Artistic Director of St. Moritz Film Festival, Stefano Rabolli Pansera.

Total Running Time: 643 minutes 42 seconds.
