From the Endangered to the Sublime: Global Eco-systems is a half-day Conversations event bringing together leading researchers, artists and scientists for a debate about the world around us and its rich and fragile biodiversity. As part of ArtScience Museum’s The Art and Science of Sustainability, this event will highlight a number of exciting areas of research into marine science and environmental management. Noted speakers include Eric Valli, the esteemed photographer behind our current exhibition: Living Yangtze by Eric Valli for Swarovski Waterschool, as well as eminent scientists and researchers including Michael Aw, author, explorer and conservation photographer. The day will be hosted by Kevin Teng, Executive Director of Sustainability at Marina Bay Sands.

The Deep Public Guided Tours
Why are some sea creatures transparent, and why are others bioluminescence? And how do animals survive at extreme depths? Learn about the extraordinary creatures of the deep in this fact-filled tour.

Directed by Eric Valli, renowned photographer and film director, Himalaya is the first Nepalese film to be nominated in the Best Foreign Film category in the 72nd Academy Awards, which tells the story of the annual rock salt trade of the upper Dolpo people and the struggle for leadership that would determine the village’s survival.

Using recycled materials to create your own waterwheel or colour your own version of the Yangtze River to learn more about sustainable water management.

Use recycled materials to create your own creature from the deep, and make your own glowing Angler fish with the use of a battery, UV LED and a simple circuit.
Recycled maker activity complimentary to exhibition ticket-holders. Angler fish activity: additional $3 per person.
Upcycle Art Workshop
Friday 2 & 16 October, 4.30pm

Plastic is one of the biggest man-made killers of maritime life. Learn about the different types of plastic and their impact on our oceans, and then upcycle a plastic object to create your own deep sea creature.
$5 per person. Suitable for all ages. Up to 20 visitors on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration begins 15 minutes before workshop begins at workshop space.
Make Your Own Glowing Angler Fish Workshop
Friday 9 & 23, Saturday 10 & 24, Sunday 25 October, 4.30pm

Using a UV LED light and a battery, decorate your own Angler fish template and create a simple circuit to make it light up, while also learning all about this fascinating creature and other bioluminescent life from the ocean depths.
$5 per person. Suitable for children aged 4 and up. Up to 20 visitors on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration begins 15 minutes before workshop begins at workshop space.
Stories From The Sea

Listen to master storyteller Kamini Ramachandran as she takes you to kingdoms below the seas. Enjoy magical stories about creatures, both real and mythical, who live in the deep.
Complimentary to all. Attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis. Recommended for family audiences with children aged 4 and up.
Family Fridays
Interact, learn and play as a family with a series of child-friendly activities and programmes.
Every Friday, up to four children under 12 years old enter for free with every adult ticket purchased.

Children can enjoy The Deep’s printed activity booklet which introduces the amazing creatures that feature throughout the exhibition, and highlights the importance of marine conservation.
