17 January to 2 February 2019
In our time of conflict and uncertainty, one of the lines of enquiry in contemporary art is a retreat from the horrors of our social-political realities into an inner world of dreams and the fantastic. Yet this trajectory is no simple escape from life. The Chinese literati sages of old who retreated to the mountains were not merely escaping but seeking a way to live, navigate or even better the tumultuous times in which they found themselves. The dream-like worlds created by contemporary artists are also ways in which the rich repertoire of visual iconography in Asia is cleverly deployed to critique the current social-political fractures in oblique and suggestive ways beyond polemical positions. This exhibition, drawing upon visually arresting and unusual works of Asian contemporary art from Singapore-based collections demonstrates the depth and risk-taking among private collectors based in Singapore today.
The Show is an annual signature event on the Singapore Art Week calendar. Organised as one of the initiatives around the IMPART Awards that support emerging local visual art talent, the IMPART Collector’s show presents a selection of works that are privately held, giving the collectors an opportunity to share their passion with everyone. It desires to bring together the market, the makers and the masses as a part of a vision to not only cultivate and support emerging art talent, but also encourage art collectors and the public to understand, appreciate and support these communities.
The IMPART Collectors’ Show is showcased in ArtScience Museum and organised by Art Outreach Singapore, a non-profit organisation committed to increasing visual art literacy and promoting art appreciation in Singapore. The organisation has been working closely with Marina Bay Sands over the years to make art accessible to the public and support young talent in Singapore, under the integrated resort’s Sands for Singapore corporate social responsibility programme.

In conjunction with the exhibition, a public symposium will be conducted on 26 January 2019 from 10am -12pm at Heliconia Main Ballroom, Level 3, Sands Expo and Convention Centre. Keynote speakers will include prominent international and local art practitioners, as well as prominent local and regional collectors featured in the exhibition.
