In a city-state like Singapore where 82% of the population uses the Internet and 67% are active on social media, the effects of the world’s datafication are inherently present. As Singapore strives to become the world’s first Smart Nation, this connectivity will be embraced and further enhanced.
The Smart Nation vision involves harnessing data and digital technologies in order to improve the lives of citizens, create opportunities, and build stronger communities. While technology is necessary for this vision to be achieved, ultimately, citizens are at the heart of the vision, and not technology.
If a large component of the success of the Smart Nation lies in the participation of the public, how do citizens feel about the initiative? This conclusion to the exhibition looks to Singapore and its population to consider what data means to us.
