Soundislands: Re:Sound is a two-weekend festival accompanying Orchestral Manoeuvres that embraces different dimensions of sound and different possibilities of listening.
Soundislands: Re:Sound opens with an exuberant presentation of contemporary classical and experimental performance works by Joyce Beetuan Koh, Morse Percussion, Dirk Stromberg, Clare Chong and Qush Abdul exploring alternative techniques and DIY music practice; a site-specific sound installation by PerMagnus Lindborg examining liminal spaces where architecture and sound overlap; and a sound workshop by Zul Mahmod on circuitry drawing.
The second weekend presents a series of intriguing interventions in and around the exhibition galleries, comprising improvisatory sound encounters by the young composers and musicians from NAFA School of Music, theremin demonstrations by Chris Ang, and multi-disciplinary interventions by anyhowplayplay in response to artworks from the exhibition.
Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto), who is considered to be one of the most important representatives of a generation of artists exploring the intersection between music, art and science, closes the festival with the world premiere screening of his new performance work and a livestreamed artist talk.
Soundislands: Re:Sound is co-curated with Joyce Beetuan Koh and PerMagnus Lindborg of Soundislands, and sees ArtScience Museum reconnecting with the creative studio following the collaboration on SI15 ~sound:senses.
