Masterclass: Your State of Mind with Lee Yi Xuan

Masterclass: Your State of Mind with Lee Yi Xuan

Special Event

8 Oct 2022 & 7 Jan 2023

11am – 12.30pm

The Sun, Basement 1

S$35 per participant, includes a free and easy visit to MENTAL: Colours of Wellbeing.

How do you express your feelings when there are no words to describe them? What if drawing circles could be the solution?

Led by Singaporean artist Lee Yi Xuan, the masterclass is a mindful drawing exercise where you will scratch and scribble circles on a piece of acrylic block. Apart from drawing circles – a common method used in art therapy as a mean to help one express and understand their innermost feelings on a deeper level – you will also learn more about grounding techniques, a self-soothing method using various materials.

At the end, participants will be able to enjoy a guided segment by Yi Xuan to view her work State of Mind, located in MENTAL: Colours of Wellbeing. She will share more on the concept and inspiration behind the artwork.

This masterclass is offered as part of our education programme for MENTAL: Colours of Wellbeing.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lee Yi Xuan (b. 2000) is a multidisciplinary artist and art educator based in Singapore. Having completed her degree studies in Fine Art in NAFA, she is currently pursuing a Masters in Art Therapy.

Prior to her degree studies, Yi Xuan explored the concept of play within art education. Fuelled by the need to break out of society norms and expectations, it led to a fascination to express her state of mind. Inspired by the struggles of her contained chaos, Yi Xuan wants to show that everyone has their silent struggles and wishes to raise awareness about the importance of mental well-being.

Her work State of Mind has been exhibited in Project: It’ll be Alright – Singapore Art Museum, Towards Unlearning – Gajah Gallery, reTHINGing the Site – Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, Imprints of the Self – dblspace, What Does Reality Looks Like – Lim Hak Tai Gallery.

MENTAL: Colours of Wellbeing
3 Sep 2022 - 26 Feb 2023

How are you? You know that it’s okay to feel what you are feeling, right?

Your feelings are unique and personal.

MENTAL: Colours of Wellbeing is not an exhibition about mental illness, treatments or cures. It is a welcoming place where you can confront societal bias and stereotypes around mental health. MENTAL invites you to embark on an intimate and personal journey that explores the many different ways of being, surviving and making connections, that have become of increasing importance to us all.
